In a recent public notice, the Telangana Dental Council has clarified the professional scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) in the state. The Council affirms that these surgeons, adhering to the Dental Council of India (DCI) guidelines, are qualified to undertake facial aesthetic procedures and hair transplantation.

This announcement comes in the wake of amendments to the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) Course Regulations, published in the Gazette of India in August 2019. OMFS specialists are extensively trained to perform complex procedures such as minor oral surgeries, facial trauma and fracture management, head and neck cancer surgeries, craniofacial surgeries, and cosmetic corrections.

The Dental Council of India has further endorsed OMFS roles in aesthetic surgeries through official letters, including the integration of hair transplant procedures into the curriculum. The Telangana Dental Council encourages the public to refer to official DCI communications for updated information.
