On Monday, Ericsson revealed its inaugural India-produced antenna model destined for global export, marking a pivotal development in the company's strategy to bolster its manufacturing and engineering foundation in India. The pioneering antenna, tailored for high-performance networks, is geared for commercial launch, with international shipments slated for July.
The announcement took place at an event graced by Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia. The company is expanding its passive antenna manufacturing and engineering landscape in India, thus establishing a comprehensive capability that involves local sourcing, production, and engineering, crafted to meet both global and Indian network standards.
"Ericsson initiated this endeavor a year ago, concentrating on amplifying the local ecosystem and establishing component and antenna manufacturing within India," stated the release. Achieving more than 50 percent local production of antenna content, the firm is entering a new phase of enhancing its India-based engineering prowess to support regional adaptation and spur innovation while scaling to meet global demand.
"Ericsson's cutting-edge passive antennas lead the charge in next-generation 5G infrastructure development. As network demands continuously evolve, antennas play a critical role in enabling communications service providers to achieve optimal network performance, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness," the release continued. Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System, affirmed the commitment to constructing an end-to-end antenna ecosystem in India, inclusive of local sourcing, production, and engineering.
"This represents a long-term investment in capability, talent, and technology," Eriksson added. By expanding its local engineering ecosystem, Ericsson is fostering deeper collaboration with Indian R&D partners and enhancing integration with a swiftly advancing supplier base.
Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India, emphasized that the company's investment not only fortifies India's telecom infrastructure but also plays a crucial role in developing a resilient, forward-looking ecosystem. "India is swiftly evolving into a global epicenter for high-tech manufacturing and innovation. Our advanced 'Made in India' antennas will serve both domestic and global markets," he stated.
The release assured that antennas manufactured in India will comply with Ericsson's stringent global criteria for quality and performance, ensuring they satisfy the needs of both domestic operators and international clientele.
