MSMEs Navigate to Sustainability: SPeX Index Hits 10-Quarter High

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have demonstrated a significant commitment to sustainability, as revealed by the latest Sustainability Perception Index (SPeX) released by Dun & Bradstreet alongside the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). The index saw a noteworthy rise of 14.7% in the first quarter of 2025, marking its peak over the last ten quarters.

The dimensions of awareness, willingness, and implementation have each shown remarkable improvements, reaching unprecedented levels since tracking began. Despite these advancements, MSMEs face challenges, particularly in governance and technical expertise, which hinder their ability to fully adopt sustainable practices.

The report underscores the importance of simplifying certification processes and providing better access to technical expertise to support MSMEs' transition towards sustainable business operations. As MSMEs gain momentum in environmental responsibility, regulatory influences and economic incentives are proving to be key motivators driving this transformation.
