Boosting Connectivity: Four-Lane NH-87 Project Approved

The Union Cabinet has greenlit a significant infrastructure project aiming to enhance the Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram section of NH-87 to a four-lane road configuration. Scheduled for a capital investment of Rs 1,853 crore, this development is part of a broader initiative to improve connectivity in Tamil Nadu.

I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a press briefing, emphasized the project's potential to alleviate congestion on the currently overburdened two-lane highways serving key regions such as Madurai, Paramakudi, and Rameshwaram. The upgrade addresses the pressing need for safer, faster travel along this crucial corridor.

Beyond easing current transport bottlenecks, the project is poised to play an instrumental role in regional economic development. By linking significant economic and religious centers, and by catalyzing tourism to Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi, the development is expected to spawn substantial employment and growth opportunities in surrounding areas.
