A tragic maritime accident struck late Wednesday as a ferry carrying 65 individuals sank near Bali, claiming four lives and leaving 30 unaccounted for. Only 31 passengers survived the disaster, according to Indonesia's Search and Rescue agency.
The vessel, named KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, went down close to half an hour after departing from East Java's Banyuwangi port. It was en route to Bali, transporting 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles at the time.
Rescue operations faced challenges due to adverse weather conditions, particularly strong currents and winds. Authorities have dispatched a helicopter and 13 underwater rescuers to aid the search.
