Tragedy on the Waves: Bali Ferry Disaster

The search for 30 missing individuals continues after a ferry sank near Bali's resort island, resulting in four fatalities late Wednesday night. The tragedy unfolded when KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya capsized almost half an hour after departing from Ketapang port.

Authorities have since rescued 31 people out of 53 passengers and 12 crew members, amid challenging conditions that included strong, two-meter-high waves and nighttime darkness. The search effort, which involved a helicopter and nine boats, saw improved weather conditions by Thursday morning.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident; survivors mentioned a leak in the ferry's engine room. The ferry was transporting 22 vehicles, including 14 trucks. Many of the rescued were unconscious after enduring hours in turbulent waters.
