Government Intervention Leads to Sharp Drop in Srinagar-Delhi Airfare

The recent government intervention led to a significant reduction in flight prices between Srinagar and Delhi. In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which raised concerns of tourist departures, the government capped airfares to avoid a price surge.

The civil aviation ministry instructed airlines to keep the Srinagar-Delhi route under Rs 10,000 and Srinagar-Mumbai under Rs 13,000. Any airline violating these limits faced regulatory action. Flights on the Srinagar route increased from 51 to 56, stabilizing passenger costs and aiding stranded tourists.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol clarified that while airfares are typically unregulated, the government intervenes when necessary to curb price exploitation and ensure passengers' welfare. A recent fare drop exemplifies effective crisis management.
