Mizoram's civil society organizations, along with transport associations, have called on the NHIDCL to urgently repair the damaged sections of NH-6/306 to maintain the supply of essential goods to the state. The highway, a key link to Mizoram via Assam's Silchar, is in dire straits.
The Joint Civil Society of Mizoram (JCSM) reports on the precarious condition of the Sairang-Kawnpui stretch, citing an alarming number of stranded and overturned vehicles due to potholes and mud patches. Their assessment revealed inadequate repair efforts, with only minimal labor and machinery present.
NHIDCL's Executive Director noted that repairs on Sairang-Kawnpui are hampered by rain and traffic, yet the state government has sanctioned Rs 1.85 crore for quick restoration. JCSM hints at community-driven repairs should NHIDCL delay further.
