A devastating collision between a minibus taxi and a haulage truck claimed 17 lives in northeastern Zimbabwe on Tuesday, according to police reports.
Paul Nyathi, the police spokesman, confirmed that all victims died at the scene near Chitungwiza, a heavily populated area southeast of Harare. The crash was caused by the truck losing control and hitting the minibus after striking pedestrians.
The accident's wreckage left the minibus flattened and scattered debris across the road, with rescuers working tirelessly to recover bodies. Mayor Rosaria Mangoma of Chitungwiza urged for the crash to be declared a national disaster.
