In a notable innings for the aviation sector, Indian airlines carried more than 1.36 crore passengers in June, surpassing the figures from the same period last year, as per official data released on Thursday. This translates to a 3% increase over May's passenger numbers of 1.32 crore.

While IndiGo's market share witnessed a marginal decline from 64.6% in May to 64.5% in June, Air India Group marked an ascent, capturing 27.1% of the market, compared to the previous month's 26.5%. Akasa Air maintained its position at 5.3%, whereas SpiceJet's share decreased to 1.9%.

Across the first half of 2025, domestic airlines transported 851.74 lakh passengers, a 7.34% increase compared to the same period the previous year, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) disclosed. The June cancellation rate was at 0.93%, with technical, operational, and weather-related issues being the main reasons for flight disruptions.
