In a tragic incident, a state-run bus in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district veered off a steep mountain road and plunged 100 feet, resulting in the death of eight people, including four women, according to police reports on Thursday.
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus, carrying 29 people, including the driver and conductor, was en route to Durgapur from Sarkaghat when the accident occurred at 10.30 am near Tarangla. Immediate reactions from local residents led to a swift police and medical response.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, overseeing the transport department, visited the accident site and various hospitals, ensuring victims received optimal medical care. The government ordered a magisterial probe and provided immediate relief funds to affected families. Grief and condolences poured in from officials and public figures.
