In an effort to improve road safety, Indore district will implement a new rule from August 1, denying petrol to two-wheeler riders who do not wear helmets. This move is part of a broader campaign to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and was driven by recommendations from the Road Safety Committee of the Supreme Court.
The order, officially issued on Wednesday, means that two-wheeler drivers without helmets will face challenges at fuel pumps, as articulated by Ashish Singh, the Indore district magistrate. Violations could lead to legal actions against petrol stations, including imprisonment, fines, or both.
This strict measure comes after the Madhya Pradesh High Court criticized the persistent traffic rule violations in Indore. Regional Transport Officer Pradeep Sharma noted that over 21 lakh vehicles, including 16 lakh two-wheelers, are active in the district, highlighting the pressing need for road safety measures.
