US President Donald Trump's announcement of a 25 per cent tariff on all Indian goods, alongside additional penalties for certain purchases, has prompted Indian officials to prepare for strategic trade discussions. The politically sensitive agricultural sector supports roughly 700 million rural livelihoods in India, making it a priority in negotiations.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal reassured Parliament that India's national interests remain paramount as the government deliberates on implications and engages with stakeholders. As US trade representatives prepare for discussions, India is taking steps to ensure the welfare of farmers, MSMEs, and exporters.
