Two coaches of the Muzaffarpur-Sabarmati Jan Sadharan Express derailed near the Panki area between Kanpur and Tundla, according to railway officials.

The incident on the Delhi-Howrah route disrupted train services significantly. Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Shashi Kant Tripathi stated that the derailment occurred as the coaches, specifically the sixth and seventh from the engine, veered off track with a substantial jolt.

The train's low speed at the time helped avert a significant disaster, but a few passengers sustained minor injuries and received first aid at the scene. Passengers recalled the unsettling moment the coaches tilted unexpectedly, spreading panic. Emergency response, including technical teams and a medical van, was rapidly deployed for rescue operations. Additional police forces, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Tripathi, ensured crowd control during the response. The derailment led to train diversions, with normal service expected post-track clearance and a safety evaluation. Authorities have formed a committee to investigate the derailment's cause.
