The Meghalaya government, after seven years of fostering local entrepreneurs, is preparing to unveil a new Startup Policy designed to align with the evolving landscape of emerging sectors and startup requirements.

According to an official, the policy is nearing completion as the government holds discussions with entrepreneurs and ecosystem stakeholders to strategize the next phase of growth.

Cyril V Diengdoh, Secretary of the Planning Department, emphasized the necessity for a shift towards scalable, innovation-driven enterprises instead of traditional grant-based support, during a Roundtable Conference organized by PRIME Meghalaya.

Diengdoh highlighted the crucial need for a policy overhaul that addresses not only enabling support but also market access, value chain integration, and small business aggregation directly.

Participants at the conference called for improved financial incentives, youth-led innovation encouragement, collaboration with educational institutions, and support for startups tackling social and environmental issues, such as waste management and urban congestion.

Targeted interventions were also identified in growth sectors like agri-tech, tourism, traditional crafts, and digital services.

The state reiterated its dedication to policy progress, ecosystem collaboration, and sustained capacity building with this renewed initiative.

PRIME Meghalaya will play a pivotal role in this transformation by implementing bold visions into actionable policies that link startups to opportunities and promote progress.
