Titagarh Rail Systems Secures Major Mumbai Metro Contract

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) has secured a contract valued at Rs 1,598.55-crore for manufacturing 108 coaches for the Mumbai Metro, as stated by a company official on Monday.
The company received an official Letter of Acceptance for the comprehensive delivery including design, manufacturing, and commissioning of the coaches for Mumbai Metro's Line 6.
According to TRSL Deputy MD Pritish Chowdhary, the contract provides a consistent profit margin of 9-10 percent, with potential for improvement upon capacity ramp-up and backward integration.
The manufacturing of each coach involves costs of approximately Rs 10-11 crore, varying according to specific customer requirements and facilities.
Contracted by NCC Ltd on behalf of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), TRSL's responsibilities include a two-year defect liability period followed by five years of maintenance.
As the specialized subcontractor responsible for rolling stock on Line 6, connecting Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli, TRSL will deliver 18 train sets of six coaches each. Completion of the design-build phase is anticipated within 104 weeks, post which maintenance will be initiated.
This order significantly enhances TRSL's footprint in the Indian urban transit market, dovetailing with its strategic growth in rail mobility solutions.
TRSL operates an integrated manufacturing facility located at Uttarpara in West Bengal's Hooghly district.
