Trade Talks Stall: US-India Tensions Rise with New Tariffs
A planned visit by U.S. trade negotiators to New Delhi has been canceled, delaying the proposed bilateral trade agreement talks. The cancellation follows U.S. President Trump's imposition of an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods due to India's ongoing Russian oil imports. Tensions have escalated due to multiple negotiation collapses.

The planned visit by U.S. trade negotiators to New Delhi, originally scheduled for August 25-29, has been called off, delaying critical discussions on a proposed bilateral trade agreement. This development was reported by NDTV Profit, citing unnamed sources familiar with the situation.
The scheduled talks were anticipated to provide relief from the additional tariffs on Indian goods, set to take effect on August 27. The cancellation comes amid rising tensions following the United States' imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian goods due to India's continued importation of Russian oil.
Negotiations had previously broken down over disputed issues, such as opening India's agricultural sector and halting Russian oil imports. India's Foreign Ministry has criticized the U.S. stance, pointing out that both the U.S. and European Union maintain trade relationships with Russia.
