The Meghalaya government has issued orders for the installation of proper signage on the under-construction Shillong-Dawki Road. This move follows a tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of five people, including a pregnant woman and a young child. The car they were in plunged into a 70-foot-deep gorge on Sunday night.

Prestone Tynsong, the Deputy Chief Minister who manages the PWD (Roads) portfolio, emphasized the importance of road safety in the region. He stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine whether the accident was due to driver error or factors related to the construction company. He also mentioned steps are being taken to avert similar incidents in the future.

In response, the chief engineer of the PWD (National Highway) is tasked with inspecting accident-prone areas to ensure proper warning signs are displayed. A meeting between NHIDCL officials, the construction firm, and Tynsong further solidified the plans to enhance safety measures on this crucial road.
