Rail passengers can now avail themselves of an Optional Travel Insurance Scheme by paying a nominal premium of 45 paisa. This initiative, announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, is available exclusively for confirmed and RAC passengers booking tickets online.
The insurance scheme offers additional coverage and is opted for at the time of ticket booking. Passengers receive policy information via SMS and email, and insurance claims are handled directly by the insurers, ensuring a straightforward process.
Over the past five years, a significant sum of ₹27.22 crores has been disbursed to passengers through 333 settled claims. The scheme is lauded for its affordability and ease of access, allowing passengers to easily opt-in or out while booking on the IRCTC platform.
