In response to corruption claims, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is maintaining transparency in awarding catering tenders within train clusters, reports Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Speaking to the Lok Sabha, Vaishnaw emphasized robust monitoring systems and compliance measures to uphold integrity.
Several MPs have raised concerns regarding government actions on corruption within IRCTC and questioned why some contracts were disproportionately awarded to a single family. Responding in a written reply, Vaishnaw stated that tendering processes adhere to extant policies with awards going to the highest bidders.
The Railway Minister highlighted improvements in food quality and hygiene in trains. Vaishnaw assured that no 80 percent contract distribution occurred and penalties were imposed for complaints. The RailMadad portal monitors complaints as the ministry serves 16.5 lakh meals per day across the network.
