Airbus has announced the appointment of Jürgen Westermeier as the new President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, effective September 1. Previously the Executive Vice-President and Chief Procurement Officer, Westermeier will replace Rémi Maillard, who transitions to a vital engineering role within the company.
Under his leadership, Westermeier will guide Airbus' operations across Commercial Aircraft, Defence and Space, and Helicopters in the region. He aims to drive commercial aircraft sales and expand the company's regional presence, aligning with India's 'Make in India' initiative through strategic campaigns.
With strong ties in procurement and supplier partnerships since 2020, Westermeier brings extensive experience from his tenure at Airbus and his early career at BMW. His leadership comes as Airbus strengthens its local commitments, tripling sourcing from India to $1.48 billion and planning new facilities and partnerships, including those with Tatas and ISRO.
