The Andhra Pradesh government has deposited Rs 189.95 crore towards the Kadapa-Bangalore railway project, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urging for the remaining funds to continue progress. The project, a 266-km railway line on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis, demands further investment to advance its execution.
Members of Parliament inquired about the project's status, alongside other pending undertakings. So far, Rs 358.60 crore has been spent, and the Kadapa-Pendlimarri section is operational. However, Andhra Pradesh has only partially met its financial commitment of Rs 1,353 crore.
In June 2021, a new alignment proposal was put forward, with the required survey now sanctioned. Vaishnaw emphasized the necessity for stakeholder consultation and approvals from entities like NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Finance for project sanctioning.
