In a significant development, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) recorded a 15% increase in new investor registrations during June 2025, marking a total of 12.7 lakh new investors. This positive trend emerged after May's count of 11.0 lakh but still fell short of the previous year's figures, according to the NSE's latest Market Pulse report.
Regionally, the upswing was spearheaded by West India, which witnessed a notable 20.5% increase over the month. South India and North India followed suit with increases of 15.2% and 13.4% respectively, while East India posted a 10.4% rise. Uttar Pradesh emerged as the leading state, contributing 1.8 lakh new registrations or 14% of the national total, achieving a 13.1% hike from the previous month.
Despite these gains, investor registration at a national level has been sluggish compared to the previous fiscal period of 2024-25, with Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan experiencing significant slowdowns. Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, typically leaders in investor numbers, faced declines of 39% and 36%, respectively, illustrating a broader trend of registration deceleration across India.
