Railways Under Fire: Protect Infrastructure from Signal Disruptions

The Railways has alerted all of its zones to exercise heightened caution during infrastructure upgrades, as damage to signal and telecommunication cables can severely threaten train safety and operations, potentially leading to catastrophic outcomes.

The Railway Board issued a letter to all zones, highlighting that extensive infrastructure, safety, and reliability projects like doubling, yard remodeling, and the installation of modern signaling systems are underway. This has led to frequent reports of cable damage, causing signal failures and train disruptions.

Despite previous safety directives, incidents continue to occur due to non-compliance. The Board suggests preventive measures, including utility relocation before work begins, inter-departmental coordination, and adhering to integrated Cable Route Plans. Officials emphasize that safety must remain a priority during ongoing infrastructure projects.
