Maharashtra's irrigation department is exploring the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) to finance a massive Rs 70,000 crore water transfer project from Konkan to the Godavari river basin, announced Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil on Friday.

Following a meeting of the Godavari Valley Council, Vikhe Patil revealed that the government is also considering HAM for the costly Nalganga-Vainganga project in Vidarbha. Recently, financial agencies were briefed on the project, which wouldn't require government investment for the initial five to six years.

The government is also examining potential sites for solar panels to produce income and aid in project maintenance. A Rs 25,000 crore proposal covering 85 additional projects is also under review, with NABARD approached for financial support.
