Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is set to unveil a freight service designed to emulate the existing system in place with the Delhi Metro, according to KMRL officials. The service will operate during non-peak hours focusing on non-perishable, packaged goods, ensuring minimal disruption to passenger services.
This initiative aligns with the Union government's directive for metro networks nationwide to adopt freight services. Kochi Metro currently spans between Aluva and Tripunithura, covering over 27 kilometers, with further expansion plans toward Kakkanad underway.
In a recent statement, KMRL highlighted the service's potential benefits for the local business community, positioning it as a faster, more efficient mode of goods transportation. This move is expected to open up a new revenue stream for KMRL. Businesses keen on using the service have been encouraged to reach out via contact@kmrl.co.in, with tariffs and schedules to be finalized following stakeholder feedback.
