The trial run of Metro Lines 4 and 4A was successfully conducted in Maharashtra's Thane, marking a significant step towards infrastructure improvement in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stressed the project's potential in drastically reducing travel time and improving connectivity for daily commuters.
State dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, joined the trial run on a 4-km stretch. Officials predict the lines will serve at least 22 lakh people daily, cutting their travel time by up to 75%. The completion target is set for next year, with some work possibly extending into the following year.
The Metro project, with an investment of Rs 16,000 crore, will link Wadala, Ghatkopar, and Mulund in Mumbai to Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh in Thane. Fadnavis attributed previous delays and cost escalations to the inaction of the last government, ensuring that the current administration is committed to overcoming past neglect and bringing transformational change to the region's transit network.
