Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Monday that electric vehicles (EVs) will reach price parity with petrol-powered vehicles in India within the next four to six months.

Gadkari highlighted the economic and environmental toll of reliance on fossil fuels, costing India Rs 22 lakh crore annually in fuel imports. This, he noted, underscores the necessity of embracing clean energy to advance national progress.

The minister further outlined an ambitious goal of transforming India's automobile industry into the world leader within five years. He praised the agricultural sector for its role in biofuel production, generating a significant income boost for farmers. Emphasizing education, Gadkari called for integrating innovative technologies into curriculums to prepare future generations effectively.
