Unveiling the 'Missing Link': A New Era for Mumbai-Pune Expressway

The long-awaited 'missing link' on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be inaugurated on May 1, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Sunday. This new stretch is designed to circumvent the treacherous Bhor Ghat section, ultimately enhancing safety and alleviating congestion in this historically problematic area.

Scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, this 13.3-km stretch connects Khopoli to Kusgaon near Lonavala. It is part of a Rs 6,700-crore project spearheaded by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The missing link will offer improved access control, ensure smoother traffic flow, and is expected to shorten travel times between Mumbai and Pune by 20 to 30 minutes.

The project consists of two tunnels and India's tallest road cable-stayed bridge, reaching an impressive 182 metres, and promises to set a new benchmark in engineering and transport infrastructure. Officials emphasize the project's role in boosting tourism and local economy, while also maintaining that no toll hikes will result from the new extension.
