India's Manufacturing Push: Global Ambitions and Quality Standards

Indian manufacturers need to prioritize quality to establish themselves in global markets, according to Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare. Addressing a PHDCCI national conference, Khare stressed the necessity of making quality consciousness central to manufacturing operations. This approach aligns with India's goal of becoming a reliable global manufacturing hub.
Khare highlighted Quality Control Orders (QCOs) as critical tools for strengthening the country's manufacturing ecosystem. These orders, beyond regulatory measures, enhance consumer safety and trade fairness, contributing to Atmanirbhar Bharat. Currently, 723 products require BIS certification. Industry voices have called for BIS standards to gain international recognition to ease export challenges.
Sunil Mangla of PHDCCI noted that obtaining separate certifications for different regions burdens exporters. He advocated for a globally acknowledged BIS standard. Industry representatives called for better industry-education alignment and infrastructural growth. Khare responded positively, facilitating quick testing solutions. Anshuman Singhania of JK Tyre underscored varying technology adoption rates in manufacturing but highlighted India's potential as a top-quality global supplier.
