In a decisive move, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has ordered a strict crackdown on private bus operators involved in unauthorized fare hikes and the use of illicit passenger booking applications. Sarnaik addressed the issue at a recent ministry meeting, announcing measures to protect passengers from exploitation.

The minister revealed the formation of a special committee, including the joint transport commissioner and representatives from Surajya Abhiyan, a non-governmental organization. This committee is tasked with devising long-term solutions to curb unjust fare increases and curb unauthorized booking apps. A comprehensive report will be presented to tackle these issues effectively.

Reacting to complaints from commuters, Sarnaik highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring passenger rights, particularly during peak seasons. Additionally, he pointed to forthcoming enhancements in communication systems at bus stations and improvements in cleanliness standards at Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation facilities, marking a significant step forward in passenger service quality.
