Sunil Bharti Mittal's Vision for Bharti Airtel: A Family Legacy in the Making
Telecom magnate Sunil Bharti Mittal plans to pass Bharti Airtel's leadership to his children in the next decade. His goal is for Bharti Telecom to acquire over 50% of Airtel's stake. The strategy involves significant investment, enhanced shareholding, and leveraging the company's performance and cash flow.
Sunil Bharti Mittal, the telecom mogul, intends to transition Bharti Airtel's leadership to his offspring within the next ten years. His ambition is for Bharti Telecom to regain a controlling shareholding in the company, aiming for more than 50% ownership.
Currently, Bharti Telecom, alongside promoter firms like Indian Continent Investment and Singtel Group, holds a 48.87% stake. To achieve a 51% stake, substantial cash reserves are required, estimated at Rs 1 lakh crore, considering the current market valuation.
Mittal highlights that enhancing the stake is contingent on Airtel's performance under its executive leadership. The strategy involves share buybacks, providing dividends, and optimizing cash flow. Mittal, reappointed as Chairman until 2031, underscores the group's expansion across multiple sectors since its inception in 1976.
