Indian Railways Races Against Time for a Greener Tomorrow

The Railway Board has expressed concerns regarding the sluggish implementation of environment-focused projects across Indian Railways. On Thursday, the Board directed all zones to expedite these undertakings in a timely and effective manner.

The letter, sent to general managers, emphasizes the goal of Indian Railways to become a 'Net Zero Carbon Emitter by 2030', aligning with India's international commitments under the Paris Agreement. According to the IRPSM Portal, only around 22% of the required projects have been sanctioned to date.

In April of the previous year, a budget of Rs 750 crore was allocated for environmental sustainability initiatives. However, the zones have not adhered to the execution timeline. Urging personal intervention, the Board calls for general managers to closely monitor these critical projects to enhance environmental sustainability within Indian Railways.
