Fuel Hike: A Gift or a Burden?

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, describing the recent petrol and diesel price hikes as the PM's 'gift' to the nation amid challenging economic circumstances. He voiced concerns about the resulting 'tragic situation' for citizens.

The Rs 3 per litre rise in fuel prices marks the first increase in over four years. This decision comes in the wake of escalating global crude prices due to conflicts in West Asia and follows assembly elections in multiple states. Shivakumar expressed dissatisfaction with Modi's appeals for reduced fuel consumption, postponing gold purchases, and other financial conservations.

Criticizing Modi's handling of international relations, Shivakumar emphasized the importance of ensuring citizens can live comfortably. Highlighting governance failures, he contended that lifestyle changes as suggested by the PM, such as cutting travel, are impractical. In Tamil Nadu, Shivakumar also commented on party strategies and alliances.
