Odisha Government Increases Bus Fares Amid Rising Fuel Costs

In reaction to the Centre's recent fuel price increase, the Odisha government has announced a hike in bus fares across the state. The adjustment, detailed in a notification by the Transport Commissioner, raises ordinary passenger bus fares to 90 paise per kilometre, up from the previous 88 paise.

Express bus fares have been elevated to 94 paise per kilometre, moving up from 92 paise, while deluxe buses see an increase from Rs 1.27 to Rs 1.31 per kilometre. AC deluxe bus rates rise to Rs 1.59 per kilometre, compared to the earlier Rs 1.55, and super deluxe buses will now charge Rs 2.47 per kilometre, six paise more than the previous fare.

The notification justifies the fare hikes as necessary due to the Rs 3 per litre rise in both petrol and diesel prices. These changes apply to stage carriages, excluding town buses, and are effective immediately following the order's issuance.
