GeM Celebrates 2026 Incorporation Day: Empowering India's Procurement Landscape
The Government e Marketplace (GeM) celebrated its Incorporation Day 2026, highlighting its pivotal role in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in public procurement across India. With a focus on domestic enterprises, GeM continues to support government procurement through digital innovation, aligning with national initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The Government e Marketplace (GeM) marked its Incorporation Day on May 16, 2026, underscoring its significant contribution to transforming public procurement in India. Celebrated for its role in fostering transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity, GeM is a critical asset for domestic enterprises utilizing the platform for procurement opportunities.
Incorporated on May 17, 2017, as a Section 8 non-profit under the Ministry of Commerce, the GeM Special Purpose Vehicle spearheads the development and management of the platform. Over the years, GeM has evolved into a leading digital public procurement platform, facilitating easier business operations and providing broader market access for sellers nationwide. The initiative aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local, and Viksit Bharat 2047 visions, promoting local enterprise engagement.
Currently, GeM supports over 1.36 lakh government buyers and nearly 25 lakh sellers, with a significant portion being Micro and Small Enterprises. Noteworthy achievements include substantial procurement orders for MSEs amounting to ₹2.36 lakh crore during FY 2025-26 and significant engagement by women-led MSEs and SC/ST entrepreneurs. Celebrations included a Vendor Assessment Workshop, and future events like "GeM Manthan" aim to stimulate discussions for ecosystem enhancement.
