India and the Netherlands have elevated their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership, signing 17 agreements during high-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. The discussions, spanning defense, critical minerals, and other vital sectors, reflect a concerted effort to strengthen cooperation against the backdrop of shifting global geopolitics.
In a joint statement, the two leaders expressed concerns over the geopolitical turbulence in West Asia and its impact on global energy supplies. The strategic agreement also addresses transit freedom through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical node that has faced disruptions due to regional tensions.
The dialogue highlighted mutual interest in enhancing cooperation in emerging technologies, particularly semiconductors and AI. Both nations also committed to shared sustainability goals and looked forward to leveraging the India-EU Free Trade Agreement to expand bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
