Spanish Cruise Evacuee Tests Positive for Hantavirus
A Spanish national evacuated from a cruise ship tested positive for hantavirus while in quarantine at a Madrid military hospital. This is the second case among 14 evacuees from the MV Hondius. Health authorities stated that the detection does not change the general risk situation.
A Spanish national, who was among those evacuated from a cruise ship earlier this month, has tested positive for hantavirus, according to Spain's Health Ministry.
This individual, now in quarantine at a Madrid military hospital, marks the second positive case among 14 Spaniards evacuated to Tenerife from the MV Hondius cruise liner. The ship, carrying around 150 passengers and crew from 23 countries, reported a cluster of severe respiratory illnesses to the World Health Organization on May 2.
The affected person has been isolated at Gómez Ulla Hospital. The Health Ministry, via social media platform X, stated that this detection among those already quarantined doesn't alter the risk for the general population.
