Negotiations for a free trade agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have gained new momentum. Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced that discussions have accelerated, reflecting heightened efforts to strengthen economic ties between the parties, following media reports.

The EAEU, an alliance of five countries established in 2015 to boost economic cooperation, is enhancing its trade commitments globally. Having signed agreements with Mongolia, the UAE, and Indonesia, the union is now focusing on deeper trade relations with India. The process began in 2025, aiming for substantial progress in negotiations.

With both sides agreeing on a framework for talks last year, the discussions saw increased vigor this year, aligning with India's goals to prioritize trade integration with EAEU during its BRICS chairmanship. Putin also highlighted the growing interest from various global entities in partnerships with the EAEU.
