Drone Disruption: Munich Airport Temporarily Shuts Down
Munich Airport experienced a temporary shutdown after pilots spotted a drone. The incident caused over 20 flights to be diverted. Despite an extensive search by police, no drones were found. Operations resumed after one hour, with an investigation underway to understand the cause of the disruption.
MUNICH - Flights were halted for roughly an hour at Munich Airport on Saturday morning, following reports by two pilots of a drone sighting. This prompted airport authorities and police to investigate, resulting in the diversion of over 20 flights.
The shutdown began around 9 a.m. with separate reports from two pilots on the tarmac. Their sightings led to an extensive police search involving a helicopter, but no drone was located.
By 10:05 a.m., flights resumed as the threat to air traffic was deemed minimal. An investigation has started to determine the cause, as similar incidences disrupted Munich Airport operations last year.
