India-US Trade Talks Near Conclusion: Historic Agreement on the Horizon
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that the first tranche of the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement is close to finalization. Both nations have settled major issues, with ongoing talks focusing on preferential access and tariff relief. A US delegation, led by Chief Negotiator Brendan Lynch, is in Delhi for key discussions.
India and the United States are on the brink of finalizing an interim trade agreement, as confirmed by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. With a US delegation in Delhi, discussions are set to conclude the first tranche of the broader Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
The team, led by US Chief Negotiator Brendan Lynch, will engage with India's representatives for three days to iron out the details. These include preferential trade access and resolutions to tariff issues, particularly concerning US Section 301 investigations. Goyal emphasized the progress and said that the talks represent sustained efforts toward enhancing economic collaboration.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, assured that nearly all components of the Interim Trade Agreement are complete. With goods and services trade between the nations surging to over USD 220 billion, expectations are high that the accord will be signed in the coming weeks, paving the way for comprehensive future negotiations.
