President Donald Trump has signed a proclamation to amend Section 232 tariffs on certain steel, aluminum, and copper imports, mainly aiming to boost U.S. industry. The changes lower tariffs on some products to 15% and introduce new categories with 25% duties. These measures, effective June 8, will persist until December 31, 2027.
U.S. President Donald Trump has enacted significant amendments to Section 232 national security tariffs, the White House announced Monday. The changes, targeting specific steel, aluminum, and copper imports, are aimed at bolstering the nation's industrial capacity.
The proclamation primarily reduces tariffs for certain steel and aluminum derivative products from 25% to 15%. Items such as agricultural machinery and residential heating equipment will benefit from these lowered tariffs. Meanwhile, mobile industrial equipment imports from trade deal countries are now subject to a 15% tariff.
The new tariffs also expand to include two more categories: steel racks and aluminum lithographic plates, which will face a 25% duty. These adjustments apply to products imported after June 8 and will be valid through December 31, 2027, to encourage short-term industrial investment.
