In a significant achievement for India's education sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the QS World University Rankings 2026 includes a record 54 Indian institutions. This marks a notable advancement with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, reaching the 123rd spot, climbing over 70 places in just two years.
The rankings, revealed Thursday morning, see India as the fourth most represented country, trailing only the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mainland China. Eight new Indian institutions have entered the list this year, highlighting the country's growing prominence in global higher education.
Published by Quacquarelli Symonds, a London-based educational analytics firm, the annual QS Rankings evaluate universities worldwide by their academic reputation, faculty-student ratios, research impact, diversity, and graduate employability. This year's list places India in a competitive position on the global stage.
