Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has taken a significant step in supporting female education by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela. The MoU, finalized on Friday, pledges Rs 43 crore towards the construction of a girls' hostel. This initiative is part of MCL's corporate social responsibility.

The signing ceremony included MCL Chairman and Managing Director Uday Anant Kaole, Director of Human Resources Keshav Rao, and NIT Rourkela Director Professor K Umamaheshwar Rao. The proposed hostel aims to increase female enrollment in STEM fields, ensuring a conducive environment with cutting-edge amenities like LAN connectivity, CCTV, and rainwater harvesting systems.

Since its inception, MCL has invested Rs 93.77 crore in enhancing educational infrastructure at NIT Rourkela. This includes funding for another 500-seater girls' hostel and the establishment of a Technology Business Incubator (TBI), demonstrating MCL's commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation.
