In 2022, student suicides represented 7.6 percent of all suicide cases in India, slightly down from previous years. The Ministry of Education and Health have launched several initiatives, including MANODARPAN and the DMHP, to address mental health and prevent suicides among students through counseling, workshops, and awareness programs.

The percentage of student suicides in India dropped to 7.6 percent in 2022, according to official data presented in the Lok Sabha. This marks a small reduction from 8.0 percent in 2021 and 8.2 percent in 2020, reflecting ongoing concerns over student mental health.
Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, shared insights from the Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India (ADSI) report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The Ministry is actively deploying a variety of strategies, including psychological aid for students and their support systems.
Government programs like MANODARPAN and the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) are addressing these issues through counseling, suicide prevention services, and life skills training. Educational institutions have also joined the effort by conducting workshops on stress management under initiatives like the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme.
