Collaborative Efforts Drive School Infrastructure Overhaul in Meghalaya

Meghalaya's Education Minister, Rakkam A Sangma, has called upon all state legislators to actively contribute to the ongoing efforts to upgrade school infrastructure. Speaking on Tuesday, Sangma highlighted his personal efforts, having renovated 45 schools in his constituency with MLA scheme funds.

Sangma emphasized the potential impact if every Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) attends to 50 schools annually, urging collaboration rather than playing the blame game. Legislators in Meghalaya receive Rs 2.5 crore annually under the MLA Local Area Development Scheme, which can be used for various developmental projects including school infrastructure.

The state government's Mission Education initiative aims to repair and upgrade over 2,000 schools within the next two years. This includes a recent Rs 100 crore sanction to upgrade 200 lower primary schools. The push for shared responsibility is seen as a vital step toward ensuring a better learning environment for students across Meghalaya.
