Punjab's New Overseas Scholarship Boosts Opportunities for Low-Income Students

The Punjab government, under the announcement made by cabinet minister Dr Baljit Kaur, has introduced a scholarship program aimed at assisting children from low-income families in pursuing higher education overseas.

This initiative specifically targets students from Scheduled Caste communities and landless agricultural laborers. Eligibility criteria include an annual parental income of less than Rs 8 lakh, with students needing to secure at least 60% in graduation and be below 35 years of age. Notably, 30% of the seats will be reserved for female applicants.

The government promises to cover crucial expenses such as visas, tickets, tuition fees, and also provide an annual maintenance allowance of Rs 13.17 lakh and a contingency allowance of Rs 1.35 lakh. The scheme includes a list of 500 top-ranked universities where students can apply.
