Nagaland Teachers Stand Firm Amidst Government Negotiations

The Nagaland education department, on Thursday, proposed the creation of a committee to address the demands of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) teachers, who are seeking regularisation and scale pay. However, the RMSA-2016 batch teachers, on their ninth day of protests outside the Civil Secretariat, turned down the department's proposal.

During a meeting chaired by Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Home Commissioner, Abhijit Sinha, the government discussed its limitations in meeting the teachers' demands until a review petition currently before the Supreme Court is resolved. The meeting included representatives from the school education and law and justice departments, Samagra Shiksha, and the RMSA-2016 batch.

The government emphasized the negative impact of the ongoing protest on students and expressed its resolve to find a solution. Still, Nagaland RMSA-2016 Teachers Association spokesperson Renbemo L Patton insisted that unless a feasible plan for scale pay, regularisation, and mainstreaming into the state teaching cadre is provided, the agitation will persist.
