Two girls and a boy clinched the top three positions in the class 10 Punjab School Education Board examination, according to the result declared here on Monday. A total of 272 students have been placed in the merit list and of them, 220 are girls. Harleen Sharma of Saraswati Senior Secondary School, Jaiton in Faridkot was the state topper with 99.38 percentage and 646 marks secured out of 650. The cumulative pass percentage for girls was higher (95.96) than for boys (93.23). In the urban areas, the pass percentage was 92.98, while in rural areas it was 95.35, as per the result. The pass percentage of government schools was 94.45, while the non-government schools performed slightly better at 95.97 per cent. A total of 1,593 students failed and 13,126 students have to re-appear in the exam, as per the result. Top five districts, which recorded the highest pass percentage, are Amritsar (98.41), Ferozepur (98.39), Pathankot (97.99), Tarn Taran (97.95) and Gurdaspur (97.84), as per the result. Ludhiana recorded the lowest pass percentage at 89.20, as per the data.
