A truck carrying 1,388 kg of poppy husk worth around Rs 2.08 crore and headed to Uttar Pradesh was seized in Jharkhand's Khunti district, a police officer said on Monday. The vehicle was intercepted during a checking drive on the Kamdara-Rania road near Bhalutoli village within Rania police station limits on Sunday, police said. ''The truck was seized after a tip-off that a large quantity of poppy straw was being transported to Uttar Pradesh. Following the input, police launched a checking drive on the route. As the driver spotted the police team, he parked the vehicle on the roadside and fled,'' Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Torpa) Christopher Kerketta said. ''Upon searching the vehicle, we recovered 1,388 kg of poppy husk kept in 69 sacks,'' he said, adding that the estimated market value of the seized consignment is around Rs 2.08 crore. The seized vehicle is registered in UP's Pilibhit district. Police have lodged an FIR under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway, the SDPO said.
